Roles and permissions
What each role can do, and how to change someone's role.
Roles and permissions
Every member of a team has a role, and the role decides what they can do. Roles are ranked: a member can never act on someone at or above their own rank, which is what stops an administrator from removing the owner.
Changing someone's role
Go to Settings → Members, open the member and pick a new role. You can only assign roles below your own — you cannot promote someone past yourself, and you cannot demote someone above you.
Role changes take effect on the member's next request; they do not need to sign out and back in.
Reviewing what a role can do
Settings → Roles lists the roles in this deployment and the permissions each one carries — typically things like inviting members, changing billing, and deleting the team. The exact set depends on how this product is configured.
The owner
Each team has exactly one owner, who can do everything including deleting the team. Ownership transfers explicitly, from Settings → Members; it is never assigned automatically, so a team cannot end up ownerless.
